Prince Caspian....

So at the Reno Vineyard this past weekend, we took our Youth to go watch the latest movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series, Prince Caspian.

I for one loved the first movie, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and was expecting great things from this follow up. I had heard bad reviews Saturday morning and thought I would just try to enjoy the movie for what it is and not cast too critical an eye. I need not have worried. What a phenomenal movie!

I will refrain from spoiling the plot of the movie for those of you who are yet to see it but I will say keep an open ear for the numerous deep lines regarding the Christian faith. To say some of these lines are powerful would be an understatement.

Once again, Aslan wonderfully depicts our Lord. He shows great love and power that is available to all of us if we only turn to Him, for he is there all along. The dialogue between Aslan and Lucy is wonderful and the level of unbelief by Peter is something we can all relate to at some points in our l
ives.

The movie is powerful, challenging and humorous at times (look for the big bear with the soft voice and the crazy attempt at a love story between Susan and Prince Caspian) and definitely worth seeing on the big screen. It's always expensive to go to the movie theater today but if you can go, do so. If you can take your youth do so. And follow that up with a time of discussion and prayer. This movie is a great tool to enter into talks about scripture that is literally endless.

P.S. On a side note, the actor who plays Peter (William Moseley) just cracked me up through the entire movie. Moseley spent the last year at acting school in NY city. His latest rol
e requires him to be a little macho and arrogant. At times he pulls it off. At other times, he wonderfully portrays a piece of wet lettuce holding a sword, which in itself is very entertaining.

GeoCaching and the world we live

It's a crazy thing. Some people love it. Some people hate it.

If 10 years ago I was told that I would be using an electronic device smaller than my cell phone (well back then it wasn't hard to make something smaller than cell phones. I am sure you remember those days where you had to assemble cell phones like you were assembling a rifle in the army) to search for hidden key rings, boxes, plastic eggs, ammunition cylinders (all commonly known as caches) I would have laughed at you. I am sure you would have too. But we are there. We have this opportunity to partake in this crazy fun adventure that combines the outdoor life with some pretty specky technology. I can't understand for the life of me why more people don't enjoy it??? Sure, some have never heard of the thing. That's a fair reason. Others, well they seem almost disappointed with it. When they find the cache there is an air of "well, is that it?"

Seriously people, how spoiled have we become? The last 10 years have been the most significant technology advancements in history. Cars can now run on three types of fuel. The internet no longer needs a gazillion wires as we now use thi wonderful thing called 'wireless.' Our TVs are of such quality I can see sweat fly from Kobe's brow as he makes a slam dunk! We can log onto our computers and at the click of a button be talking to someone face to face in Australia without a delay. We are living in a Jetsons cartoon folks!

So I love technology (tempting to sing that song isn't it?). I love what it has to offer. But is it moving to fast? Something like geocaching would have been seen as so amazing and maybe not even possible 10 years ago can now be seen as a little boring? Kids would rather play their 360 or myspace. How sad is that? Seriously.

I for one love geocaching. I will continue to love it as 'Team Snitchen and the Drifters' continue to devour caches. But I will be making an extra special attempt to be amazed at what man (who God created in His image) has created and not take it for granted. I shall enjoy this technological age we live whiles being awestruck by the world God created as we climb another mountain in search of a cache. I for one, think Geocaching is the perfect hobby that shows the best of the natural world and the world of technology. Call me old fashioned, but I am not ready to take technology for granted when their are people in the world who don't know where their next meal is coming from. If I ever do so, you have my permission to slap me and call me spoiled.

The First one

With these blogs there are always the first posts. The posts where people say the customary 'hi' and how they are excited to share their thoughts, life etc and normally finish with popular 'check back soon!' I will not do that. I shall refrain from all the cliches and simply ask a question for my first post

'Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?"

You can send your answers in on a postcard or simply post below :)
