So at the Reno Vineyard this past weekend, we took our Youth to go watch the latest movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series, Prince Caspian.
I for one loved the first movie, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and was expecting great things from this follow up. I had heard bad reviews Saturday morning and thought I would just try to enjoy the movie for what it is and not cast too critical an eye. I need not have worried. What a phenomenal movie!
I will refrain from spoiling the plot of the movie for those of you who are yet to see it but I will say keep an open ear for the numerous deep lines regarding the Christian faith. To say some of these lines are powerful would be an understatement.
Once again, Aslan wonderfully depicts our Lord. He shows great love and power that is available to all of us if we only turn to Him, for he is there all along. The dialogue between Aslan and Lucy is wonderful and the level of unbelief by Peter is something we can all relate to at some points in our lives.
The movie is powerful, challenging and humorous at times (look for the big bear with the soft voice and the crazy attempt at a love story between Susan and Prince Caspian) and definitely worth seeing on the big screen. It's always expensive to go to the movie theater today but if you can go, do so. If you can take your youth do so. And follow that up with a time of discussion and prayer. This movie is a great tool to enter into talks about scripture that is literally endless.
P.S. On a side note, the actor who plays Peter (William Moseley) just cracked me up through the entire movie. Moseley spent the last year at acting school in NY city. His latest role requires him to be a little macho and arrogant. At times he pulls it off. At other times, he wonderfully portrays a piece of wet lettuce holding a sword, which in itself is very entertaining.
